Cisco CSR 1000V is a virtual router software that provides comprehensive WAN gateway functionality for multi-tenant cloud and virtualized environments. Built on Cisco IOS XE Software, it extends enterprise networks to cloud providers with robust routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), VPNs (IPsec, DMVPN, EasyVPN, FlexVPN, GetVPN), firewall, NAT, QoS, and application visibility control (AVC). It operates on Cisco UCS and third-party servers supporting multiple hypervisors (VMware ESXi, Citrix XenServer, Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM), and public cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. The CSR 1000V enables secure hybrid cloud connections, scalable VPN termination, MPLS WAN extension, and seamless workload migration with consistent management and security policies.
