About the Google Authenticator

Google Authenticator is a software-based authenticator that implements two-step verification services using a Time-based One-time Password (TOTP) algorithm and an HMAC-based One-time Password (HOTP) algorithm for authenticating users of computer algorithms. It generates six- to eight-digit codes that users must enter in addition to their username and password when logging into services that support 2-Step Verification. This adds an extra layer of security, making it significantly harder for unauthorized users to access accounts. The application works offline and supports multiple accounts.
