About the IBM Enterprise Content Delivery Network (ECDN)
IBM Enterprise Content Delivery Network (ECDN) is a service of IBM Video Streaming designed to optimize the delivery of live and on-demand video content within corporate networks. Unlike traditional CDNs that deliver content over the public internet, ECDN focuses on internal distribution, alleviating network bottlenecks and reducing WAN bandwidth usage for large-scale video events (like town halls or training sessions). It deploys virtual appliance servers within the corporate firewall to cache video content locally, serving concurrent viewers from the LAN rather than each viewer connecting to the external origin server. Key features include reduced WAN traffic, increased security (traffic flows over encrypted HTTPS, no inbound connections from the internet to ECDN servers), ease of deployment as virtual appliances, and a web-based ECDN Management Portal for defining network topology and monitoring performance.
