About the LegalShield

LegalShield provides prepaid legal service plans, offering individuals and businesses access to legal representation and advice at an affordable monthly rate. Founded in 1972 by Harland Stonecipher in Ada, Oklahoma, the company was originally known as Sportsman's Motor Club before rebranding to Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. in 1976. In 2011, it was acquired by MidOcean Partners and subsequently renamed LegalShield. The service connects members with a network of over 6,900 independent provider attorneys across the U.S. and Canada, covering various legal needs from personal matters like family law and traffic violations to business-related issues such as contracts and debt collection.
