About the Mozilla WebThings

Mozilla WebThings was an ambitious open-source project aimed at creating a decentralized, secure, and user-centric approach to the Internet of Things (IoT). It comprised the WebThings Gateway (software that runs on low-cost devices like Raspberry Pi to expose local IoT devices as WebThings), WebThings Framework (a collection of reusable software components for building WebThings), and a WebThings client API. The goal was to enable direct communication between IoT devices and web applications using open web standards, giving users more control over their data and privacy, and fostering interoperability in the smart home ecosystem. While Mozilla has scaled back its direct involvement, the open-source project and its components remain available and are community-maintained.
