About the Sketchbook

Sketchbook is a raster graphics software application primarily intended for expressive drawing, concept sketching, and digital painting. It is renowned for its intuitive and streamlined user interface, which aims to mimic the natural feel of drawing on paper. The software offers a wide array of highly customizable brushes (pencils, markers, airbrushes, paint, smear, etc.), supporting pressure-sensitive features of digital drawing pads, tablet computers, and smartphones to replicate traditional art materials. Key features include layers with blend modes, perspective guides, rulers, stroke tools, color fill tools, and the ability to create flipbooks or animations. It also supports importing from and exporting to Adobe Photoshop (.psd) format, preserving layers. Originally a commercial software under Autodesk, Sketchbook became completely free for all users in April 2018 (with premium features unlocked), then later transitioned back to a paid model for desktop versions (Microsoft Store and Mac App Store) in June 2021, when it spun off into an independent company, Sketchbook, Inc.
