About the VideoLan
VideoLAN is a non-profit organization that develops and promotes free and open-source software for multimedia, with its most prominent product being the VLC media player. Originally a student project at École Centrale Paris, the VideoLAN project has evolved into a global, volunteer-driven initiative. VLC media player is a highly portable, cross-platform multimedia player, encoder, and streamer capable of playing most multimedia files, as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It supports a vast array of audio and video codecs and file formats without requiring additional downloads, and it can stream over networks and transcode multimedia files. Beyond VLC, VideoLAN also hosts other projects like VLMC (VideoLAN Movie Creator), and various audio/video decoding and decryption libraries.
